Texas Bloodborne Pathogens/Medical Sharps Requirements

Overview:
Counties are required to have an exposure control plan to address the safety issues related to bloodborne pathogens as related to the use of medical sharps in the workplace. According to rules adopted by the Texas Department of Sate Health Services to implement new law passed by the Texas legislature, counties and other local governments, must identify relevant job classifications, and provide work rules, training, proper work equipment/supplies, and offer vaccinations to affected employees.

These rules are analogous to federal standards for private employers administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Please refer to the related documents available on Bloodborne Pathogens in the navigation area provided to the left.
