Bloodborne Pathogens Videos & Video Training Kits:

Universal Precautions-Infection Control
(8 minutes) This video is designed for health care providers, but is excellent
for engineering, custodial, security, administration, and other personnel who
provide services in the health care environment. 4.2.001

Bloodborne Pathogens
(11 minutes) This video discusses the possibility of infection of the Hepatitis B and the HIV (AIDS) virus during contact with blood or body fluids when giving first aid. It gives guidelines for prevention of the spread of these infections in the workplace which include using barriers such as rubber gloves, face shields, etc., and dispels myths about the spread of AIDS and discusses cleanup and disposal of items soiled with blood. 6.1.001

Bloodborne Pathogens For Non-Healthcare Workers
(12 minutes) This video is designed for all employees to increase awareness of HIV and Hepatitis B viruses which can be transmitted through blood or body fluids contaminated with blood products. Helping an accident victim and providing CPR could result in the transmission of BBP (bloodborne pathogens), therefore having the basic knowledge and information can reduce risk of exposure. This is for all audiences, specifically for persons who are not at occupational risk of exposure, but could be infected by "good Samaritan acts." 6.1.002

Bloodborne Pathogens For Corrections
(22 minutes) Jail can be a violent place. Fights, drugs, rapes, searches, and other events can expose employees to infected bodily fluids. Based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1020, this vital video program will help workers keep dangerous bloodborne diseases locked away.. 2.002

Bloodborne Pathogens: An Officer Survival Guide
(34 minutes) This program helps to guard against bloodborne pathogens by
presenting a series of situations which put officers at risk of contracting HIV or the Hepatitis B virus, and by demonstrating a number of risk-reducing techniques. 6.002

Bloodborne Pathogens For Law Enforcement
(19 minutes) One of the risks as a law enforcement officer is potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, such as the Hepatitis B virus, the Hepatitis C virus, and the HIV virus. This video recognizes OSHA's standard on bloodborne pathogens which is designed to protect employees who face exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials on the job. It describes precautions you can take to prevent exposures, as well as the steps you must take if an exposure occurs. 6.003

Silent War 1- Infection Control For Law Enforcement: Understanding Contagious Diseases
(12 minutes) Part 1 is an overview of the major communicable diseases, the risks that law enforcement personnel face, officers' duty to protect themselves and others, and some of the developing legal concerns related to infection control. Also, it explains how communicable diseases are spread, followed by a summary of general precautions officers can take to protect themselves from these silent assailants. Includes 1 video, instructor's guide, and handbook. Kit 9

Silent War 2-Infection Control For Law Enforcement: Reducing Your Risk
(12 minutes) Part 2 review actions officers can take to balance their duty to protect and serve the public against their duty to protect themselves. Areas discussed include personal decontamination procedures to use following an exposure, infection control concerns to have upon entering a crime scene, personal protective equipment to use in specific situations, proper procedures for handling sharp objects, precautions to follow when handling a dead body, and protective equipment to use when giving first aid to a person. Spitting and biting attempts during arrests, procedures for reducing the risk of needle sticks and cuts during pat-downs and vehicles searches, and steps to use when decontaminating a vehicle are also discussed. Includes 1 video, instructor's guide, and handbook. Kit 10

Silent War 3-Infection Control For Law Enforcement: Post-Incident Procedures
(8 minutes) Part 3 discusses precautions to take when investigating a "cold" crime scene, procedures to use when collecting evidence in order to minimize the risk of exposure to a communicable disease, and decontamination steps to follow after the evidence collection process has been completed. This video also discusses ways to guard against exposure to a communicable disease when fingerprinting and searching a prisoner, along with steps for cleaning a jail cell. In conclusion, an overview of the major legal issues relating to infection control that law enforcement agencies should address. Includes 1 video, instructor's guide, and handbook. Kit 11
