Welcome to the 5-A-Day Challenge!

Eat five or more servings of fruit and vegetables every day for better health!

Fruits and vegetables are the cornerstone of a healthy diet. They're packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and satisfaction.

Why better health from 5-A-Day? Eating five or more servings of fruits and veggies every day helps reduce your risk of chronic diseases (such as diabetes and certain cancers), high blood pressure and obesity.

Being healthy is one of the best ways you can help control health care costs!

So, what's the point? Believe it or not, only about one-quarter of adults eat five or more servings of fruit and vegetables every day. Many of us are passing up one of the easiest things we can do to fight against serious health problems.

Here's the challenge:

  • Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day;
  • Track your servings for five weeks; and
  • Submit your scorecards at the end of each week to your coordinator.

Participants in the 5-A-Day Challenge:

  • Learn about the nutritional benefits of eating fruits and vegetables;
  • Find out how many servings of fruits and veggies they currently eat (It may be easier than you think to move up to five a day!);
  • Try new vegetables;
  • Gain new insights about shopping for and storing fruits and vegetables;
  • Realize the importance of serving sizes;
  • Adapt their digestive system to wanting and expecting more fiber in their diet;
  • Improve their health and lower their risk of chronic disease; and
  • TAC LogoReceive five weekly motivational messages from the local wellness coordinator.
