The Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool is implementing and testing a new and exciting program to encourage healthy behaviors and lifestyle called Sonic Boom. It doesn’t matter whether you’re already in great shape or if you haven’t seen the inside of a gym in decades. Young, old, male, female—this program has something for everyone.
Programs focus on physical activity, weight management, nutrition and stress reduction. Challenges are fun, educational and occasionally border on being a little whacky—but hey—step outside your comfort zone and play along!
What: Sonic Striding
You’ll wear a high-tech device called a SonicPed (accelerometer) on your shoe. It tracks all of your activity—walking, running, cycling –it knows your duration, your intensity—even your calories burned. Not only will you be able to track your individual activity (and earn points for reaching activity milestone), but start that trash-talking now, because we’re going to compete. You can’t cheat the real-time leader boards, so get ready to get moving, and to hold your teammates accountable!
Here’s the Challenge:
An eight-week challenge to encourage you to exercise more. Wear your SonicPed and walk a minimum of 3,500 steps OR accumulate at least 42 minutes of activity (walk, swim, bike, etc.) three days a week (at least 24 out of 56 days). You’ll need to walk by a receiver in your county weekly to upload your activity which will be sent to your online account and emailed to you daily.
Prizes:
Those who complete the eight week challenge will receive 7,500 BluePoints uploaded to their BlueCross BlueShield Blue Access for Members account.
Dates:
Starts: March 26, 2012
Ends: May 20, 2012
Who Can Participate:
The program is free to all county employees in county pilot groups with Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool (TAC HEBP) health insurance.
