County Government Month

Celebrate County Employees Approach
Help employees feel important; improve moral ribbon

Institute an ongoing quality improvement morale booster program. Set up a program where employees can award each other with ribbons for exceptional work or problem solving. Then, at the end of a specific period, honor the employee who has earned the most ribbons.

Do Something Special For Employees
Improve your own communications with employees by making a point to compliment every single employee during County Government Week. Every individual has a fundamental need to be recognized for his or her individual worth.
Set up a photography display that shows what county employees do in each office. Citizens who have much knowledge of what services each county department performs are few and far between, but every county has a photography buff. Develop graphic displays that illustrate each county department's job. Be sure to include specific captions that explain what is being done, as well as mentioning each employee's name and job title.

Bring Courthouse Families Together
Put on a potluck dinner or picnic for all county employees and their families, similar to an old-fashioned "company picnic." Employee morale zooms when people socialize informally. Arrange for friendly competitions (horse shoes, dominoes, softball) that facilitate camaraderie. Host a breakfast or lunch prepared by the official and supervisory staff.
