NACo Focuses 2009 Celebration on “Greening Our Future"

NACo "Green" posterCounties play an important role in protecting and enhancing the health, welfare and safety of their residents in sensible and cost-effective ways. Included in this responsibility is protecting the environment and wise use of our natural resources. That’s why the theme for this year’s National County Government Week (NCGW), May 3-9, is “Greening Our Future.”

First celebrated in 1991, National County Government Week (NCGW) was created by the National Association of Counties to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of the nation’s 3,068 counties. The community outreach events held during the month will help residents better understand how counties serve the community.
