Course Description
Training topics will cover the statutory authority for use of force as found in the Texas Penal Code. We will be looking at code, terms and factors to be considered in use of force situations that you may encounter. We will address the options you have when it comes to force, communication and weapon use. We will look at deadly force topics as they relate to law enforcement. We will discuss disruptive behavior of inmates and causes of disturbances in correctional facilities and address an overview of the legal issues related to use of force.
Objectives
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the basic statutory authority for use of force.
- Utilize use of force models and use of force options.
- Know the common causes of disruptive behavior and disturbances.
- Take appropriate preventive or remedial action to avoid potential civil liability.
