Why Manage Risk?

Overview:  Officer injuries have a major impact on the 24/7 operations in law enforcement.  This section explores the financial, moral, and workload consequences that result from these injuries.

How Injuries Happen

Overview:  The term "safety" looks different to a law enforcement officer than other professionals  While other occupations deal with accidents, this group also deals with intentional threats.  In this segment, we'll look at how attitudes, behaviors, actions, work conditions, and management systems affect intentional and unintentional injury risks.

Overview:  Just like officers may have several force option tools to use, managers also need various tools to manage their department, shooting for a favorable outcome.  This learning segment lays out the various management tools to identify and control risk to officers.

Overview:  Group exercises are used to provide an opportunity for practice and feedback in using the management tools introduced in the previous learning segment.
