Workshop Focuses on Collaborative Justice
Whether you’re thinking about starting a DWI court, or you’ve already got one established, the 2009 DWI Court Workshop provides training for successful collaboration among the judge, the probation officer, the prosecutor, the defense attorney, and treatment professionals who work together with defendants to prevent repeat offenses.
We’ll also discuss the latest DWI court issues and a look into the roles of the probation officer and the prosecutor in DWI cases. Speakers include David Wallace, director of the National Center for DWI Courts; Sabrina Bentley, a Williamson County probation officer from one of the most active DWI courts in Texas; and Clay Abbott, DWI resource prosecutor with the Texas District and County Attorneys Association.
Learning Outcomes
Participants who successfully complete this workshop will:
- Understand the individual and collective roles of DWI court team members;
- Know how to customize sentencing options to meet the needs of individual offenders; and
- Utilize and be able to adapt intensive supervision techniques including electronic monitoring devices and testing to reduce recidivism and jail population
Reimbursement
There is no charge for the workshop. Participants will be reimbursed at state grant rates for allowable travel, lodging and meals.
Who Should Attend?
All DWI court team members can benefit from attendance at this program, including county judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, treatment providers and staff.
