The previously-cancelled class in Borger has been rescheduled for April 6 at the Frank Phillips College. Please click Register above to register for this class. If you previously registered for the class that was cancelled, you DO NOT need to re-register.

Presented by: the Texas Association of Counties in conjunction with the Texas Jail Association

Educational Co-Sponsor: Correctional Management Institute of Texas, George J. Beto Criminal Justice Center at Sam Houston State University

Overview
The key focus of this workshop is on safety through interpersonal communications, defensive tactics, physical fitness and wellness. Being fit for duty protects you and your co-workers, improves your job performance and enhances your credibility. Practicing the principles of this program decreases your department's potential liability and reduces your risk of injury.

A video presentation, by nationally renowned defensive tactic expert, Erwin Ballarta, promotes safe and effective methods to use for your personal security. These defensive tactics demonstrate how to further advance officer safety in the jail and on the street. Causes, factors and how to avoid injuries are reviewed in this one-day workshop. Students will practice defensive motions but will not participate in hands-on tactical maneuvers.

Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will:

  • Know the importance of physical fitness and self defense in successful performance of daily job tasks;
  • Identify the factors that reduce job injury;
  • Evaluate how stress affects job performance and personal health; and
  • Demonstrate techniques for self protection and injury prevention.

Continuing Education Credit

This workshop offers eight (8) TCLEOSE hours. To receive continuing education credit, you must be able to provide your PID number. Please have this with you at class.

Who Should Attend

All law enforcement personnel including sheriffs, chief deputies, jail administrators, deputies, jailers and jail staff.
