Joint Conference between Texas Center for the Judiciary and Texas Assocation of Counties
Overview
The DWI College for Trial Judges provides judges who hear impaired driving cases an opportunity to get back to the basics of DWI law. Topics will include case law updates, occupational drivers license issues, a comparison of DWI forms from counties across the state, introduction to addiction, voir dire, SFST/DRE/HGN, sentencing, legislative updates and Seventh Inning Stretch—a new take on Judicial Jeopardy. In partnership with the Texas Center for the Judiciary, trial judges will also attend. Two sessions of You Asked For It, You Got It topics will also be presented.
TAC's Annual DWI Court Workshop is now a part of the DWI College for Trial Judges scheduled to be held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center in Austin, July 11-13. Registration is limited to 30 constitutional county judges. First come, first served.
Learning Outcomes
Judges who successfully complete this program will
- Hear the latest research on what works to change addictive behavior;
- Get the most recent DWI case law and statutory updates; and
- Share ideas with district and county court at law judges who hear DWI cases.
Who Should Attend?
Constitutional County Judges
Limited to the first 30 registrants
Reimbursement
Participants will be reimbursed at state grant rates for allowable travel, lodging and meals. There are no registration fees.
Judicial Education Credit
The DWI College for Trial Judges provides 12 judicial education credit hours for constitutional county judges. The State Bar has approved 14 MCLE credit hours for attorneys.
