2. The process of ordering and the order forms, which can be downloaded,
are available on the Department's web page.
3. An electronic option exists for entities to purchase most software
normally ordered through the Department's contracts and some hardware.
The service, called GoDirect, enables governmental entities to buy
directly from the Department's suppliers. The DIR software catalog
will be added to TxG2B (Texas Government-to-Business), the state's
e-procurement pilot project. GoDirect offers online quoting and
ordering, phone/fax quoting and ordering, and use of procurement/credit
cards.

The mission of the Texas Department of Information
Resources (DIR) is to be a key technology leader in the State of
Texas. The Department is charged with the task of being a catalyst
for improvement, by influencing technology decisions, and assuring
the most appropriate uses of information resources. As a part of
this mission, the Department is required to assist local governmental
entities in achieving their objectives through the most cost-effective
acquisition of their information resources. Local governments are
authorized to participate in DIR contracts by Section 791 of the
Texas Government Code. The Department of Information Resources is
a QISV vendor on the General Services Commission Catalog.

Through the Cooperative Contracts program, the Department
negotiates volume discounts for commodity software, hardware, technology-related
training, and contract technical services.
