Texas State Data Center A state level liaison to the U.S. Bureau of the Census for better dissemination of Texas census data and to meet a demand for more timely population estimates and projections for inter-censal years.

US Census Bureau-State & County QuickFacts  QuickFacts tables are summary profiles showing frequently requested data items from various Census Bureau programs. Profiles are available for the nation, states, counties, and large cities.

An Analysis of State and County Population Changes by Characteristics: 1990-1999  This working paper reports the results of research and analysis undertaken by Census Bureau Staff. It has undergone a more limited review than official Census Bureau publications.

Census 2000 Data for the State of Texas  Data in this file includes, but is not limited to, statistical data on the following population items: sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, and household and family characteristics.

Estimates of the Population of Texas Counties 1990-1999  This is a link to a text file maintained by the U.S. Census Bureau as the Texas part of the U. S. Census Bureau Estimates of the Population of Counties: Annual Time Series, August 1, 1990, to July 1, 1999 (includes revised April 1, 1990, census population counts). When clicked, it should either display the file or prompt you to download. Once downloaded, it can be opened in just about any program including spreadsheets and databases. The Hispanic Population in the United States  This 5 page Current Population Report is in Adobe's .pdf format. It provides statistics on the civilian noninstitutional Hispanic population of the United States based on the March 1999 Current Population Survey.

Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates 1997: State and County Estimates  Estimates of the number of people living in poverty by county. Includes percent of county population and median household income as well.

State Rankings  This page provides links to tables showing how the states rank on issues such as population, infant mortality, violent crime, personal income, home ownership, etc. Select "Texas" for statewide statistics. Compare your county to other counties.

U.S. Gazetteer  This gazetteer from the U.S. Census Bureau is used to identify places to view with the Tiger Map Server. You can search for places, counties or MCDs by entering the name and state abbreviation (optional), or 5-digit zip code.

Voting Demographics  Information on reported voting and registration by various demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, detailed information from recent surveys and historical trends in selected areas, projections of the voting-age population by age, race, Hispanic origin, and gender derived from administrative data are also produced every other year in anticipation of the elections.

IPUMS Data  The Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) consists of high-precision samples of the American population drawn from fifteen federal censuses and from the American Community Surveys.

Missouri State Data Center  This is the searchable database part of their web site. Look for population data including age, race, hispanic origin and sex.

National Center for Children in Poverty  The NCCP seeks to identify and promote strategies that prevent poverty among young children (under age 6).

FIPS Home Page  Under the Information Technology Management Reform Act (Public Law 104-106), the Secretary of Commerce approves standards and guidelines that are developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for Federal computer systems. These standards and guidelines are issued by NIST as Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) for use government-wide.

  • FIPS Announcements  Provides editorial changes, updated references to documents and organizations and other minor changes to FIPS PUB 4-1.
  • FIPS 55-3 - State Codes, County Codes, Place Codes, Place Names, MSA, Congressional Districts  provides codes for named populated places, primary county divisions (such as townships and census county divisions), American Indian and Alaska Native areas, and several kinds of facilities. It also provides comparable codes for counties and equivalent legal and statistical entities. In addition to the entity name and its code, the guideline provides other identifying and cross-reference information for each file entry.
  • The index for the online FIPS 55-3  Database queries on FIPS 55-3 geographic information.
