Best Practices
Every year, Texas counties strive to meet the demands of their taxpayers. They work to increase the effi ciency of
their services, the eff ectiveness of their programs and the quality of
life for their residents.
Many county officials are passionate about the public good they are
accomplishing, and it shows with each success. As a result, the texas
Association of Counties Leadership Foundation awarded 20 county
programs a “Best Practices” designation during its 2009 selection process.
While many more quality programs were nominated, the following
programs meet the Best Practices criteria: they are replicable in other
counties, they have achieved measurable results and county leadership
played a signifi cant role in their development and implementation.
In addition, the programs represent a significant innovation, achievement
or improved delivery of service that will help promote and improve county
government in the years to come.
To facilitate the replication of Best Practices, this Special Edition of County features
contact information for each program, and TAC has created a series of
videos highlighting each Best Practice, in the hopes they will be used to
promote the best of county government.
