Fines for skipping jury duty increase

If you skip jury duty, you'll face a steeper fine

Think twice before skipping out on jury service or you’ll risk paying a hefty fine.

A state law that took effect Sept. 1 increases the maximum fine from $100 to $500 for not showing up.

"The issue before us is that only 30 to 40 percent of the jurors summoned in the last few months have appeared for jury service," said Parker County’s 43rd District Judge Don Chrestman.

If you don’t pay the fine within 30 days of receiving the notice, things get worse. A warrant will be issued for your arrest.
