Safety Professional to Lead TAC Field Services Staff
Longtime Loss Control Services Manager Mike Strawn recently took charge of TAC’s 23-person Field Services Department following the Sept. 1 retirement of Richard Slagle.
Strawn, whose father Jerry Strawn retired last year after 24 years as a Carson County Commissioner, came to work for TAC in 1991. In the past, he has overseen the safety, law enforcment and fleet-related loss control services at TAC. In his new role, human resources education and marketing of risk management services are also under his purview
“Mike has worked with county officials almost two decades and understands the importance of tailoring TAC’s services to the courthouse and precinct barn environment,” TAC Executive Director Karen Ann Norris said. “He’s the right person for the job of Field Services Director.”
An engineer by training, Strawn made his mark originally in the business of safety training.
“It has always been rewarding to me to help counties improve their work environments as safe places to go to work,” said Strawn, a graduate of Texas Tech University. “TAC is unique in that we take our programs out into the counties and don’t expect officials and staff to have to come to Austin. That will continue to be how we work.”
A member of the board of the Texas Safety Association, Strawn has been a certified Field Safety Representative through the Texas State Board of Insurance since 1995 and is an approved Professional Safety Source as listed by the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission.
He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, American Society for Training and Development and the National Fire Protection Association.
