Round Table Discussions Added to TAC Annual Conference Agenda
Pre-Conference Golf Tournament Also Planned
Elected officials wanting a chance to talk solutions face-to-face with their peers will have multiple opportunities to do so during TAC’s Annual Conference, taking place Sept. 1-3 at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin.
Breakout sessions on Sept. 2 feature roundtable discussions on current topics pertinent to county officials. The four round tables run from 1-2:15p.m., and then repeat from 2:45-4p.m.
Round table topics include:
Planning for Health Care in Texas; Transparency; Criminal Justice; and Growth Management within County Government.
Attendees can also join an informal discussion with former Representative Fred Hill. Hill served as chairman of the House Local Government Ways and Means Committee and is a strong supporter of local government. Hill will discuss “big picture” issues in the upcoming 82nd Legislature, including the effective tax rate calculation, the $18 billion state budget gap, the likelihood of the state passing the buck to local governments with unfunded mandates, redistricting, proposals to lower local revenue and appraisal caps, and tax base problems caused by a 2007 law changing oil and gas valuations.
In addition, the 2010 Annual Conference Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. at River Place County Club. Register today and make sure to include who you want to play with and your handicap. Refreshments will be provided on the course, but lunch will not be served. Range balls and a golf cart are included in the $50 fee, which must be paid prior to the tournament. Fees can be paid by credit card when registering for the conference online or by check. Please make checks payable to “2010 TAC Annual Conference” and send them to P.O. Box 2131, Austin TX, 78768.
