Join us for Healthy County Boot Camp where wellness industry experts and your peers will share powerful tips, strategies and resources you can use to help county officials and employees lead healthier lives.

Conference rate is offered, based on the hotel's availability, through Jan. 29. Reservations made after this date are subject to the hotel's prevailing rate.

TAC HEBP will reimburse the following expenses for attendance of two people per county:

  • Two-night stay at the Sheraton Georgetown Texas Hotel & Conference Center up to $129 per night for single/double occupancy; and
  • Travel expenses (airline, mileage, cab fare or car rental at airport) up to $300. Mileage will be calculated from the county seat to the conference hotel.
Note: There is no reimbursement for meals. Most meals will be provided during the training. Valet parking is not reimburseable.

During this session, attendees will learn the Healthy County program goals for partnering with member counties and districts for the next 10 years. Attendees will gain the necessary knowledge, strategies, and skills to work with the Healthy County team in achieving the goals outlined.

Attendees will:
  1. Identify the goals for the Healthy County program for the next 10 years;
  2. Understand why implementing an effective work-site wellness program is important to reduce medical spend, worker’s compensation cost, and improve the culture of healthy behaviors for the county or district; and
  3. Identify why leadership support and participation is important.

9:15-10:45 a.m. Opening Keynote: A Holistic Approach to Wellness
Wellness is more than just eating broccoli and doing aerobics (or kale and cross-fit). Wellness is also more than the absence of disease and illness. Based on the ageless wisdom of the sages, mystics and healers from all countries and time periods, “Holistic Wellness” honors the integration, balance and harmony of mind, body, spirit and emotions, where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Stress plays a significant role in the compromised effects of holistic wellness, and as such, the best approach to holistic wellness also includes a resiliency component. This presentation explores each of the parts of the whole, as well as the ageless and timeless wisdom of holistic wellness and its relevance today in wellness and health promotion programming.

Participants will:
  1. Gain the ability to define the term holistic wellness;
  2. Gain the ability to define emotional wellbeing, mental wellbeing, physical wellbeing, and spiritual wellbeing;
  3. Articulate the effects of stress on holistic wellness; and
  4. Identify programming ideas based on the concepts of holistic wellness.

During this session, Coordinators will learn what their roles and responsibilities are as a Wellness Coordinator, share ideas with fellow Coordinators in your territory, and discuss the wellness consulting services available to TAC Healthy County members.

Attendees will:
  1. Learn about the role and responsibility of a Healthy County Wellness Coordinator;
  2. Learn about the 2019 Healthy County program; and
  3. Identify the new programs, services and benefits provided by TAC HEBP.

During this session, attendees can choose one of the two breakout sessions that will focus on the concepts of: (1) behavioral economics; and (2) marketing your county’s program. In each think tank, attendees will learn strategies and skills to implement these concepts on a personal and organizational level.

Creating an Ongoing Health Marketing Strategy in Your County: How-to Guide
In this session, you will learn the impact that effective marketing strategies can have on your program and identify next steps to implement them in your individual county’s health program. Ideas for this program include: social events to recognize employees for participation, social media awareness, planning a local health fair and more.
Participants in this session will be able to:  
  1. Understand the importance of marketing in relationship to overall medical spend in their counties; and
  2. Identify next steps to implement a marketing strategy for their county’s health problem.

Why Oh Why Did They Do That?: Keys to Motivation and Behavior Change, and How To Maximize Participation
Participants in this session will be able to: 
  1. Identify two things that motivate people to action;
  2. Identify how a person’s readiness to change impacts the effectiveness of an incentive;
  3. Articulate the difference between rewards, penalties, and potential loss; and
  4. Share two things they can do to get buy-in from all levels of leadership, from the Commissioners Court to managers.

​2:30-3:30 p.m. Are Your Vital Needs Being Met?
During this session, attendees will learn the definition of Vital Needs, the importance of knowing your individual Vital Needs, and how they impact your health.

Participants will:
  1. Learn the definition of, and how to identify, their Vital Needs;
  2. Identify the benefits of a healthy weight;
  3. Learn the definition of Metabolic Syndrome, how it affects your health and what you can do to improve it;
  4. Identify how culture has changed portion sizes;
  5. Learn the definition of stress and how it affects your health and weight; and
  6. Identify strategies that can reduce stress and ways to lose weight.

In our rapidly changing world, stress has become ever so invasive in our lives. Information overload, changes in technology, information processing, social networking, and global economic dynamics affect everything from our sleep patterns, work habits and eating behaviors to communication styles and exercise habits; all of which affect health and productivity. This presentation offers wisdom, insights and practical life skills for both personal growth and professional development. Topics include establishing healthy boundaries and essential coping and relaxation skills to help create and maintain a sustainable work-life balance. Included in this presentation are valuable take-home tools and skills for all participants, based on his WELCOA book, The Road to Wellness.

Participants will:
  1. Define the concept of “Healthy Boundaries” in one’s personal life;
  2. Demonstrate one coping skill for personal work-life balance; and
  3. Demonstrate one relaxation skill for personal work-life balance.
