Resources and Solutions for Counties

Regional Pool Workshops are scheduled around the state Sept. 24 - Nov. 13, 2019. These one-day sessions, back by popular demand, will cover the latest in risk management, HR trends, workplace wellness and more. The workshops are designed to build and expand on many of the topics presented at TAC’s County Management and Risk Conference.

Who Should Attend?

Elected and appointed officials, decision-makers for all pools, risk managers, pool coordinators, human resource directors and managers, safety and emergency management, law enforcement supervisors, wellness coordinators/sponsors, and department managers or supervisors.

These one-day meetings are scheduled at locations near your county to allow travel to and from the meeting on the same day. No special arrangements are made for overnight accommodations.

If you do require an overnight stay, we suggest you call the hotel and ask for the state government rate. The rate is subject to hotel availability.

The TAC Health and Employee Benefits Pool needed to do something to keep health care costs affordable for member counties and their officials and employees. Learn why the Pool changed pharmacy benefit providers, the challenges such a change presented and the immediate benefits of the change.

Join us to learn about Airrosti and how it can help control your pain. During this session, you will also learn what Airrosti providers do and how they can help, and will take part in a demonstration.

Beneath the Surface in Workers' Compensation Claims: Where Does All the Money Go?
It is no secret that workers' compensation claims require a lot of forms, deadlines and data submission. Why is all the data needed? Where does it go once reported? And how does it impact claim financials? Come to this interactive session with a pop quiz to learn the answers to these questions. You will also walk away with some helpful references and tools as you navigate through the workers' compensation claims process.

Stir the Pot with Nutritional Ingredients
Attend this session to learn about delicious, practical, and yet simple ways to add healthy foods into your life. We will discuss nutritional facts, healthy alternatives and things to avoid. You will then apply what you've learned and make your own healthy option to taste.

Building a Catastrophe Preparation & Response (CPR) Plan for Your County
"Everything is bigger in Texas," especially our catastrophic property claims! From Hurricane Harvey and West Texas wildfires to unpredictable convective storms that produce hail, wind and tornadoes, every county is susceptible to a catastrophic loss. This session will provide ideas for being better prepared for these types of events. We will discuss your operations for catastrophe preparation and response to mitigate property damages before, during and after these events.

Your Life Depends on It
Come explore various case studies outlining how your quality of life and pocketbook can be highly impacted by your medical and lifestyle decisions. You will examine the Pool’s top diagnostic categories and learn how choices in medical care and daily habits can influence cost.

The Myths and Truths about Your Cyber Risk
How do you mitigate an exposure that is becoming more pervasive every day and is rather nebulous? Privacy and data security event liability (a.k.a. Cybersecurity) is not an option; it is a requirement in today’s age. In this session, you will gain a better understanding of the Three C’s - Cyber resilience, Coverage and the Capabilities available to counties in the event of a privacy and data security event.

2:30-4 p.m. How to Conduct a HR Risk Audit
Human Resources risk audits determine whether your county practices, personnel policies and recordkeeping measures follow federal and state laws governing the employment relationship, employers' obligations and human resources best practices. Some important elements in HR audits include determining who is responsible for conducting the audit and the types of HR processes the audit should examine. This session will provide you with an overview of an HR audit process and some valuable tools to take back to your county to help you get started with your own HR risk audit.
