TAC's Risk Management Pool's Regional Workshops are scheduled around the state and are designed to be a small, intense and single-topic specific driven. These one-day sessions will cover the latest in risk control, human resources and law enforcement risk management solutions.

Who Should Attend?

Elected and appointed officials, law enforcement supervisors, jail administrators,   and department managers or supervisors.

Registration Fees

This workshop is provided free to county officials and staff.

These one-day meetings are scheduled at locations near your county to allow travel to and from the meeting on the same day. No special arrangements are made for overnight accommodations.

Mark Warren, Training Consultant, Texas Association of Counties (TAC)
This session will emphasize leadership traits and supervision skills a leader must understand, possess and demonstrate in order to be successful. The instructor will stress the importance of possessing an honorable character, displaying ethical behavior and demanding such behavior from peers and subordinates. This instruction will assess essential leadership behaviors including building trust, coaching, accentuating the positive, redirecting unwanted behavior (when necessary) and utilizing effective interpersonal communication skills.

Local TAC Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) Defense Counsel
Hear from local TAC RMP defense counsel about issues that often arise when representing counties in law enforcement, jail and employment matters. Learn ways problems associated with those types of claims can be eliminated or minimized.

1:45-3:15 p.m. Overseeing Law Enforcement or Jail Operations is a Risky Business: You Have the Power to Prevent Injuries, Reduce Risks and Avoid Negative Outcomes — Here's How
Thomas Kerss, TAC Law Enforcement & Simulator Consultants Supervisor, TAC
This session will examine critical areas of danger and common areas of risk associated with law enforcement and jail operations. The instructor will review examples of high risk that often result in deaths and injuries, as well as explore problematic staff behavior that often generates costly lawsuits and unwanted criticism. Learn proven operational strategies designed to combat symptoms of problematic behavior and explore how incorporating training and supervision with policy enforcement and discipline can effectively lower employee casualties and minimize risks.
