Join the County and District Clerks’ Association of Texas at the 126th Annual CDCAT Conference on June 6-10 at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex.

This year’s conference theme is an extension of the fall and winter conference theme, “Preserving Our Past, Embracing Our Future.” Conference sessions and speakers will offer comprehensive information on popular topics, upcoming changes that affect you directly and areas of high interest in the clerk profession.

County clerks, district clerks and combination clerks can earn continuing education credits to help fulfill their annual continuing education requirements. 

An integral part of this meeting is the opportunity to network with your fellow clerks and exchange ideas that are helpful to you and your county.

Participants will learn about disaster responses: how to prepare for and respond to being trapped in a building during an active shooter event, and steps that will assist responding law enforcement and limit casualties.  The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. The topics include the history and prevalence of such events, civilian response options, medical issues and considerations for conducting drills. The terminology of Avoid, Deny, Defend is preferred, because it is more in line with human resources department and educational standards.

This session will familiarize you with the rules and forms of judicial bypass cases and help your office be prepared to handle them. We will discuss best practices for assigning these cases to judges, explain the requirements of the bypass rules, including confidentiality and expeditiousness, and review how to process orders for payment and appeals.

Presenters will briefly address the requirements of a governmental institution under the Texas Public Information Act, in addition to those statues that govern access to judicial records, court records and the redaction responsibilities of clerks.

We will cover the acceptance and preservation of paper, physical, weaponry and biological exhibits presented in court. We will cover storage conditions, basic and enhanced, and have PowerPoint presentations on the laws and State Library schedules.  Also covered will be destruction pursuant to applicable State Library guidelines. We will look at specific examples of "what not to do,” and if it's done, what can be done to correct it. Forms will be provided to be used by court reporters.

Cancellation refund requests received in writing (email and fax acceptable) by Monday, May 10, will be granted, minus a $10 administration fee. We are unable to honor refund requests received after May 10.

Voting

Elected clerks in good standing with their membership dues will receive a virtual ballot on Monday, May 17 at 8 a.m. (central time).  Clerks will be able to vote for a district and a county clerk of the year, a CDCAT secretary candidate, and for the 2023 host city. The virtual ballot will remain open until Friday, May 21 at 6 p.m. (central time). If you did not receive a virtual ballot, please contact Hon.
