TAC Risk Management Pool's Regional Workshops are scheduled around the state and are designed to be a small, intense and topic specific. These one-day sessions will cover the latest in human resources.

Who Should Attend?

Elected and appointed officials, decision-makers for the Pool, human resource directors and managers, workers’ compensation managers, and department managers or supervisors.

9:15-10:15 a.m. Family Medical Leave Issues and Solutions

Understanding all facets of the Family Medical Leave Act and learning how to comply with this complex federal law is crucial. In this session, attendees will navigate in-depth details of administering family medical leave. We will examine unique situations in various scenarios and discuss compliance tips to help you understand how to fully comply with the Family Medical Leave Act.

As supervisors, we have been taught that documentation is a critical component within any county.  Documentation is a recording of evidence or information about employment events that can be formal or informal.  Although it is most often thought about when terminating an employee, documentation is also a crucial part of hiring and job preservation, in the form of job descriptions and performance reviews. In this session, attendees will learn why documentation is important, how it relates to job descriptions and when it needs to be a priority!

12:30-1:30 p.m. The Role of County HR in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy

As an HR professional, you face many cyber security and privacy risks from the personal data you manage and third-party vendors you may work with.  This session will provide an overview of the current cyber security and privacy landscape, mitigation techniques, and best practices to keep your office secure and safe.

1:45-2:45 p.m. Fair Labor Standards Act: Who? 207(k) Means What? 
Speaker: Ms. Michele Arseneau, PHR, SHRM-CP, Senior Human Resource Consultant, TAC
During this session, we will revisit the Fair Labor Standards Act. Attendees will learn the partial overtime exemption we call the 207(k) provisions for law enforcement. They will learn about the nuances, policies and some of the most common variations of this exemption. We will discuss the proposed increases to minimum wage and how counties should prepare for possible increases.

These one-day meetings are scheduled at locations near your county to allow travel to and from the meeting on the same day. No special arrangements are made for overnight accommodations.

If you do require an overnight stay, we suggest you call a hotel of your choice and ask for the state government rate. The rate is subject to hotel availability.
