TAC Risk Management Pool's Regional Workshops are scheduled around the state and are designed to be a small, intense and topic driven. These one-day sessions will cover the latest in risk control.

Who Should Attend?

Elected and appointed officials, decision-makers for the Pool, risk control and risk managers, safety coordinators, fleet managers, and facilities managers.

9:15-10:15 a.m.   Fire Loss Control
Speaker: Mr. Joe Szewczyk, Risk Control Consultant, TAC
Fire is a one of the most preventable types of losses, yet there are more than 100,000 workplace fires resulting in more than 100 deaths each year. This session will discuss the most common fire risks and exposures counties face. Attendees will learn about various fire prevention equipment and other preventative measures that can be taken to reduce or eliminate the hazards.

10:30-11:30 a.m.        Hail, Wind & Fire: Claim Trends and Best Practices for Protecting Your Property            
Speakers: Mr. Brett Anderson, Property Claims Supervisor, TAC

There are various perils that our facilities face throughout the year like fires, wind, hail, thunderstorms, and winter weather resulting in claims and losses when they strike. In this session, you will hear about claim trends that have impacted Texas counties in the past few years. The speakers will discuss best practices for before, during and after an event that can mitigate both short-term as well as long-term effects to your facilities.

12:30-1:30 p.m. Protecting Vehicles and Mobile Equipment from Losses
Speaker: Mr. Jack Coffey, Risk Control Consultant, TAC         
Bad weather and other perils don’t just affect buildings and facilities. Vehicles and mobile equipment are assets that are critical to county operations. The loss of use or even worse, total loss of vehicles and equipment can set back your county operationally and financially. In this session, attendees will learn about key perils facing vehicles and mobile equipment as well as strategies that can reduce or eliminate their risk of losses.
1:30-1:45 p.m. Break
1:45-2:45 p.m. Got Roofs: What You Do Can Make a Difference
Speaker: Mr. Larry Boccaccio, Risk Control Consultant, TAC
Roofs are often one of the most overlooked building features for our facilities, yet they can lead to huge costs and headaches for facilities and maintenance staff. In this session, attendees will get an overview of roofing systems and general care and maintenance. Attendees will also learn about the importance of preventative maintenance for roofs including yearly assessments, roof entry logs, and conducting checks for damage after major wind and weather events. 
2:45-3 p.m. Closing

These one-day meetings are scheduled at locations near your county to allow travel to and from the meeting on the same day. No special arrangements are made for overnight accommodations.

If you do require an overnight stay, we suggest you call a hotel of your choice and ask for the state government rate. The rate is subject to hotel availability.

The V.G. Young Institute of County Government at Texas A&M University is the education co-sponsor of the 2021 TAC RMP Regional Workshops.
