Free cybersecurity compliance training for counties

Has your county enrolled yet for cybersecurity compliance training for 2021? Registration is open for the Texas Association of Counties' free course, which meets the requirements of House Bill 3834, passed by the 86th Legislature in 2019.

Every year all local government elected officials and most county employees must complete a cybersecurity class that has been certified by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR). They must complete the course by June 14, 2021, and counties must report compliance by June 15.

It's easy to sign up for TAC's course, and we encourage counties to enroll their entire staff and all their elected officials in the 45-minute online class. Submit an enrollment form and a list of your county's personnel at www.county.org/cybersecurity

Even if officials and employees took the course earlier in 2020, they will need to be reenrolled and to complete the class by the deadline to satisfy the requirements for 2021.

TAC has selected its training vendor with the needs of its members in mind. The course supplies foundational knowledge on the principles of cybersecurity awareness that will be relevant to most county personnel.
