Who is responsible for ensuring newly elected officials complete their oaths and bonds in a timely manner?

Ultimately, the official is responsible for completing the required documents, with the caveat that the commissioners court is responsible for accepting the bond in a timely manner. In some counties, an official such as the county clerk takes the lead in organizing the completion of this process so the newly elected officers can begin their duties as soon as possible after the beginning of their terms. This is not a required duty of the county clerk. For more information, see our updated publication Oath & Bond Requirements for County Officials.
