Does the county have any authority to regulate the ownership of a wild animal?
Yes. Chapter 822 of the Health and Safety Code governs the regulation and registration of dangerous wild animals. Further, Local Government Code, Chapter 240 governs county regulation of certain non-domestic animals. See our recently updated 2019 Animal Control Handbook for more information.
