Rep. René O. Oliveira Recognized as Friend of County Government

The Texas Association of Counties proudly honored Rep. René O. Oliveira (D-Brownsville) for his support of county government during the 85
th legislative session.

Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. and the Cameron County Commissioners Court presented Oliveira with the Friend of County Government award on Nov. 14. This past regular and special called session targeted many local control proposals, but in a leadership role as Chair of Business and Industry, Oliveira helped to preserve decision-making authority at the local level and consistently supported issues important to counties.

“We had to stop many proposals and I don’t think this assault on local government is going to stop,” Oliveira noted during his remarks to Commissioners Court.

This is the third time Rep. Oliveira has earned recognition from TAC. He earned a Champion of County Government award in 2009 and a Friend of County Government award in 2015.
