For the second year in a row, the Texas Association of Counties is known as the best in Austin. The Austin American-Statesman has selected TAC the 2020 Top Midsize Workplace in the greater Austin metro area.
"The Austin-based agency has more than 170 employees, many of whom say the association's dedication to serving its members is a huge part of what makes their work meaningful," the newspaper said in its coverage of the award.
Premier customer service is a fundamental mission for TAC. Each day, employees work to support Texas' 254 counties and more than 4,000 county officials in their service to Texans.
"This is a great honor for us," said TAC Executive Director Susan M. Redford. "The second year in a row to be number one speaks to our employees’ commitment to our members and to each other. Each employee’s commitment to excellence and to take intelligent risks is paying off huge. I could not be more proud."
TAC provides a variety of services to its members — from delivering legislative support, relevant and timely legal information, pool coverage and related services, and comprehensive risk management services to supplying required continuing education and county-related news. In doing so, employees find innovative ways to support county officials in their work serving Texans.
One example of these services is workshops for newly elected officials, programing designed to help prepare county officials taking office for the first time.
"We are a resource. We want to assist them with whatever questions they have," said Education Project Manager Amy Lawson about the workshops. "We will find the answers to those questions. We want them to succeed and be the best they can be for their communities and their constituents."
Each year the Statesman recognizes outstanding workplaces, companies and organizations of varying sizes in the Austin area. This honor is determined entirely by surveys completed by company employees. Survey questions focus on the emotional and relational environment of workplaces.
