On Dec. 20, 2019, the federal government appropriated $425 million in Help America Vote Act (HAVA) grant funds to states through the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to improve administration of elections, enhance technology and make election security improvements. This makes the second appropriation of HAVA security grant funds for distribution to states to be utilized for election security purposes. The first federal HAVA grant appropriations were received in 2018.
For its share, Texas will receive an allocation of $31,277,489 in HAVA grant funds. The Secretary of State will be releasing information soon as to how the funds will be disbursed to counties.
Additional information on the 2020 HAVA Funds federal grant can be found on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission's website.
