TAC staff joined county officials from Texas and from across the country in attending the 2020 National Association of Counties' Legislative Conference this month in Washington, DC. The conference's policy session topics ranged from rural broadband, mental health and disaster response to criminal justice and beyond.
A highlight of the conference's general session speaker lineup was President Donald Trump. In his address to conference attendees, the President underscored his administration's commitment to working with counties and his belief that local government is the most responsive level of government. Other speakers included Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson and Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt.
TAC staff also spent time on Capitol Hill visiting members and staff of the Texas congressional delegation. County priorities of elections security, disaster response and the 1115 Medicaid waiver were discussed.
