TAC recently worked with the VG Young Institute of County Government to offer virtual training on Senate Bill 2, by Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston), and the county budgeting process. Over the course of two weeks, a total of four webinars were held for two and a half hours each. Each training began with an overview of specific provisions in SB 2 that have the most impact to counties. The overview was immediately followed by a presentation on county budgeting. Each webinar concluded with a discussion of how county offices can coordinate with each other if they need to conduct a tax rate election, highlighting the recent rollback election held in Scurry County.
The training was held in lieu of the original in-person training scheduled to take place across the state, which unfortunately was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Approximately 400 local officials tuned in to the webinars, and many county officials received continuing education credits for participating.
Presenters included:
- Nathan Cradduck, Tom Green County Auditor
- Hon. Mary Cunningham, TAC Judicial Program Manager
- Hon. Tramer J. Woytek, TAC Judicial Liaison
- Katy Estrada, TAC Legislative Consultant
The webinars were held on April 28, April 30, May 5 and May 7. View the PowerPoint slides presented in the session. For more information on the content in this article, contact Katy Estrada.
