As they say on Broadway, the show must go on!
With no clear indication of what the 87th legislative session might look like, county officials and your TAC Legislative Services staff still must be prepared to share the county message with lawmakers.
So far, those preparations have included a Legislative Conference with record-breaking participation and numerous Luncheons with Legislators and Legislative Exchanges — all on virtual online platforms.
An added benefit to online events is that more county officials have been able to participate and have avoided the time and travel commitments of past events. For the same reason, more members of TAC’s Legislative Services staff are also able to contribute to these discussions.
Legislative Exchange events are held regionally to give county officials the opportunity to come together and discuss issues with TAC’s Legislative Services staff. Regions vary from 12 to 20 counties, and email announcements are distributed to all county officials in the region about three weeks in advance.
In the coming weeks, exchanges will be held virtually on a Webex platform for the areas around the following counties:
Erath – Thursday, Oct. 15
Jefferson – Thursday, Oct. 22
El Paso – Thursday, Oct. 22
Potter – Tuesday, Oct. 27
Hidalgo – Thursday, Oct. 29
Nacogdoches – Monday, Nov. 16
Luncheons with Legislators are held at the request of county officials to connect with their lawmakers. Rep. Travis Clardy (R-Nacogdoches) will meet virtually with county representatives from his region, House District 11, on Oct. 21.
If you have questions about scheduling an event in your area, please email TAC Core Legislative Group Coordinator Rhita Koches.
