Senate Bill 41 by Sen. Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo) takes effect Jan. 1. The bill consolidates civil court costs and filing fees to establish a streamlined process and standardize these costs across the state. To educate county officials and staff on the upcoming changes, the Texas Association of Counties collaborated with the County and District Clerks’ Association of Texas, the Texas Association of County Auditors, the County Treasurers’ Association of Texas and the Texas Justice Court Training Center to hold webinars throughout November. TAC extends its thanks to the record 1,511 attendees who participated from 211 counties!
As requested, TAC is sharing the webinar’s slide presentation for participants to view. Clerks and justices of the peace can find a version geared toward them here. Use access key SB41. County treasurers and auditors can find their version here. Use access key SB41.
In addition, please be sure to visit the Office of Court Administration’s website to review the new civil filing fees, suits and actions for all courts that will take effect Jan. 1.
