The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is accepting applications through April 14 for projects under the $1.5 billion in RAISE discretionary grants, which were created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Formerly known as BUILD and TIGER grants, the $1.5 billion in available funding for 2022 represents a 50% increase in available funds over the previous year. RAISE expands the number of communities eligible for a 100% share of federal funding (80% match otherwise), specifically rural communities, areas of persistent poverty and historically disadvantaged communities. USDOT has launched a tool that will allow applicants to determine if their project location is considered a historically disadvantaged community. Prior recipients may apply again.
Important dates:
- Deadline: April 14 (selections will be announced no later than Aug. 12).
- Funds must be obligated by Sept. 30, 2026.
- Funds must be expended by Sept. 30, 2031.
