Members of the Core Legislative Group met July 12 for an informative lunch gathering during the North and East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association's annual conference in Denton. Fourteen county officials heard an update on mental health and other pressing legislative issues from CLG Coordinator and TAC Legislative Consultant Kelsey Bernstein.

The meeting also offered an opportunity for the officials to network with each other. An in-depth discussion was followed by a productive question-and-answer session on other legislative topics. Erath County Commissioner Joe Brown noted that "the best part about these gatherings is being able to sit down with the other county officials. It's helpful to talk and listen to each other's concerns."

The gathering was the first of several planned training opportunities that will take place before the 88th Legislature, which convenes Jan. 10, 2023. The CLG is open to any county official who wishes to be more engaged in the legislative process. Membership is an effective means for county voices to be heard at the Capitol and across the different affiliate associations.
