The new episode of the Texas Association of Counties' podcast, Texas County Voice, is available today and explores the issue of rural health care.

Delivering health care in rural communities is a perennial challenge, one made more difficult by dwindling populations, rising health care costs and staffing shortages. The pandemic exacerbated the challenges.

The Texas Association of Counties helped sponsor a recent discussion on rural health care hosted by The Texas Tribune in Temple. Dr. Grady Hogue, interim head of the Department of Primary Care and Population Health at Texas A&M College of Medicine, Dr. Diedra Wuenschel of the Coryell Health Medical Clinic in Gatesville, and Lorenzo Serrano, CEO of Winkler County Memorial Hospital, participated in the hour-long talk, which was moderated by The Tribune's Evan Smith.

Texas County Voice shares excerpts from the Tribune discussion. The episode also includes an interview with Bell County Pct. 3 Commissioner Bill Schumann.
