Applications open for next Leadership 254 class
The Texas Association of Counties is accepting applications for the Leadership 254 Class of 2023-24 until Sept. 16. County officials can apply online at www.county.org/leadership254.
Leadership 254 is designed to advance the skills of county officials to enable them to meet the unique challenges of their duties and to enhance their leadership abilities and style.
"The curriculum focuses on personal and professional transformation, reflection and growth. So, participants see those three themes throughout the program," said Haley Click, TAC's Director of Education & Member Services.
Participants in the 14-month, four-module program learn to overcome their limitations to redefine the possibilities they set for themselves, their courthouse, their county official association and their constituents.
Leadership skills are advanced through:
- Interactive discussion.
- Theory building.
- Skill assessments.
- Experiential learning activities.
Comal County Treasurer Renee Couch, the immediate past president of TAC's Board of Directors, completed the program in April.
Participants finish the program much better leaders, Couch said. But learning more about yourself is the most important benefit, she said. It helps you to better "understand the people, the relationships and the difficulties in your life."
This improved understanding "will give you the peace of mind needed to be a positive, effective leader," Couch said.
At least two applicants from each county office will be chosen for the next class, which will begin in February 2023 and run through April 2024. Applicants will be notified of their admission status before Nov. 18.
TAC will provide scholarships to those selected to attend. Participants are responsible only for travel cost to and from each module.
