Agenda set for 2022 Legislative Conference

    Health & Benefits News

With today's most pressing issues for county government on the agenda, the Texas Association of Counties' 2022 Legislative Conference is all set to help counties prepare for the 88th Legislature, which convenes Jan. 10, 2023.

Scheduled for Aug. 24-26 at the Fairmont Hotel in Austin, the conference will connect hundreds of county officials and staff members with their peers from every corner of Texas. State legislators, policymakers, subject-matter experts, representatives of the National Association of Counties, and exhibitors sharing products and services for counties will attend the three-day event.

Ten breakout sessions moderated by members of TAC's Legislative Services team form the centerpiece of the conference's learning opportunities. Topics include:

    • Bail bond reform.
    • Behavioral health and the courts.
    • Federal funding available to counties.
    • Property taxes.
    • Implementation of the state's new election rules.
    • Law enforcement and mental health diversion.
    • Emergency management.
    • State and federal grant resources.
    • The American Rescue Plan Act.
    • The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

A look at how to access funding for broadband expansion will close the conference. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar and Greg Conte, director of the state's Broadband Development Office, will join the discussion.

This year's conference follows last year's successful hybrid model. Participants can choose to attend the conference either in person or online through a virtual conference platform.
