The 2017 Legislative Conference, set for Aug. 23-25 in Austin, offers county officials and staff an overview of the 85th legislative session and an opportunity to get involved in the legislative process.
Connect with your county government peers, legislators and key descision-makers in Austin;
Review ways to communicate essential information back to your county and constituents;
Learn about legislation that could affect your county and your office;
Hear about new tools to better communicate the county message; and
Exchange your experiences, know-how and contacts with other attendees.
Check back often for conference updates. Many county officials can also earn hours of required continuing education at the conference.

Dr. Rick Rigsby
Grow Your Influence
Dr. Rick Rigsby is President and CEO of Rick Rigsby Communications. Through motivational speaking, corporate coaching, books and social media outlets, Rigsby encourages and empowers audience members to become great people who do great things. The San Francisco native is an award-winning former journalist with a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon. He spent two decades as a professor at Texas A&M University, where he also served as character coach and chaplain for the Aggies football team.
Rigsby now devotes his full attention to empowering people worldwide — from presenting leadership principles in Nigeria to speaking to Fortune 500 companies and other leading organizations in the Americas, Europe and Canada, like the NFL and PGA. He has received numerous commendations and awards, and is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Teaching Award by Texas A&M University’s College of Liberal Arts.
In addition to academic publications, Rigsby is the author of Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout—the story of timeless common-sense wisdom learned from his father.

Texas Counties Deliver
Chet Garner of PBS’s The Daytripper has partnered with TAC to produce a series of informative and entertaining videos that tell the story of Texas county government. Garner will debut more videos in the Texas Counties Deliver series, highlighting county services. Garner is the creator, executive producer, writer, editor and host of the Emmy-award winning TV show, The Daytripper.

Austinite Ben Cina is not your ordinary singer/songwriter; he is a fresh, rare talent and a truly inspiring performer. Cina has been writing and performing for the past ten years and received training while attending the world famous jazz department at the University of North Texas.

Sine Die Celebration with Entertainment by Kevin Lovejoy Quartet
A celebration is to express gratitude to everyone that supports the efforts of county government. This post-session reception is an opportunity for county officials to exchange with legislators, peers, TAC legislative staff and other subject matter experts.
Kevin Lovejoy is a gifted pianist who’s played with everyone from John Mayer to Austin’s own jazz legend, Kat Edmonson. The quartet, with singer Sarah Arenella, commands the crowd with their jazz acrobatics and interpretations. This is the ultimate Austin jazz experience.

Contact your legislator today and invite them to join you at no cost at the 2017 Legislative Conference. The first county official to register with their legislator and have them attend, will be reimbursed for their conference registration fee.
To take advantage of this special offer, be the first to register your legislator and answer “Yes, my legislator is attending.” Enter their name on the registration form when prompted. If you have already registered for the conference, please email or with your legislator’s name and the date(s) they will be attending. Reimbursements will be given after the conference.
