Budget and Tax Rate Meeting Held
County officials gathered June 2 in San Angelo for a detailed discussion of budget and tax rate matters. Organized by TAC Board President and Tom Green County Auditor Nathan Cradduck and Ward County Auditor Ellen Friar, the meeting built on last year’s inaugural event. The organizers, along with presenters from TAC’s Legal Services and Legislative Services departments, reviewed statutory requirements that guide the preparation and adoption of a county budget.
The meeting was open to any county official or officer involved in their county’s budgeting process. The capacity crowd of more than 80 included representation from various county offices and drew attendees from 49 counties. Michael Pichinson and Paul Miles from TAC’s Legal Services department showcased TAC’s new Budget & Tax Rate Planning Calendar. Pete Winckler from TAC’s Legislative Services department provided a legislative update.
The five-hour program covered tax rate calculation, required public notices, timelines, procedural considerations and associated subject matters.
While no future meetings are scheduled, all indications point to subsequent iterations.
