    Many state and federal grants are available to Texas counties. Below is a selection of those currently accepting applications.

    Federal Funding Opportunities

    State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP)

    Provides payments to state and local governments that incur certain types of costs due to the incarceration of undocumented criminal aliens who have been convicted of at least one felony or two misdemeanors and who were incarcerated for at least four consecutive days during a specified 12-month reporting period.

    Maximum award: $59 million
    Anticipated total awarded: $221,175,193

    State Funding Opportunities

    Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP) Abridged Applications Now Open

    EDAP provides financial assistance in the form of grants and loans for water and wastewater projects in economically distressed areas where service is unavailable or does not meet state standards. Projects must be in counties that adopt and enforce Model Subdivision Rules. Projects must also be in an economically distressed area established before June 1, 2005, with a median household income not greater than 75% of the median state household income. According to the Texas Water Development Board, 62 counties have adopted Model Subdivision Rules.

    Available funding: $100 million in bond proceeds.
