Texas Broadband Development Office Now Accepting Map Challenges

On Dec. 29, Comptroller Glenn Hegar published the Texas Broadband Development Map, which indicates whether locations are served, underserved or unserved with broadband service. The map also classifies designated areas (census blocks) as eligible or ineligible for broadband funding based on the percentage of unserved locations and the existence of prior federal broadband funding commitments.

The Broadband Development Office (BDO) is now accepting map challenges from impacted broadband service providers and political subdivisions that are seeking to reclassify designated areas as eligible or ineligible. A petition seeking reclassification of a designated area must be submitted to the office not later than 60 calendar days after the map is published or updated on the Comptroller's website. For the current version of the map, challenges submitted after Feb. 27 will not be accepted.

Broadband service providers or political subdivisions that believe the data on the map is inaccurate should complete and submit this form, along with required evidence, by email to the office at BDO.Map@cpa.texas.gov.

Following the deadline, the BDO will post the accepted petitions on the Comptroller's website. Impacted entities may provide further information to the office showing whether the designated area should or should not be reclassified.

Please visit the BDO's Map Challenge Process Guide to learn more.
