Texas Broadband Development Map Now Available
One of the Texas Broadband Development Office's legislative mandates was to create and maintain a broadband development map delineating between those areas eligible and ineligible for financial assistance. In August, the BDO partnered with LightBox (LBX) to accomplish this momentous task, and after extensive outreach and development, the map is now available on the BDO's website.
The BDO will also create a challenge process for broadband service providers and political subdivisions to reclassify designated areas on the map, which will be published in the coming weeks. In producing the map, the BDO and LBX directly contacted 335 entities, including 211 internet service providers (ISPs), operating in Texas and invited them to provide availability data. Those 335 entities were drawn from prior Form 477 submissions to the Federal Communications Commission. Out of the 211 ISPs, the BDO received 141 submissions. The BDO's goal is 100% participation with the map, so it will continue outreach to all ISPs in subsequent map refreshes.
The map will be updated twice a year, and the next data acquisition requests will go out in February or March. Questions or comments about the map can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to see you at the next Texas Broadband Development Office Local Government Roundtable on Feb 2.
