    "Sometimes the discussions during the salary grievance process can become heated or sensitive in nature. Can the committee meet in closed session to spare anyone from possible embarrassment?"


    Can an elected official serving on the grievance committee participate in and vote on their own salary grievance?

    Yes. In Letter Opinion No. 98-097 (1998), the Attorney General found that Chapter 171 of the Local Government Code does not bar a member of a salary grievance committee from voting on his own salary grievance.
