    Indigent Defense Improvement Grant Request for Applications, FY 2025

    The Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) has issued the FY25 Improvement Grant Request for Applications (RFA) for programs that improve indigent defense services in Texas. County matching funds are required for the FY2025 grants. See each of the five improvement grant categories below.

    1. Multi-Year Improvement Grants – minimum amount of $50,000 and a cash match required. State reimburses at 80% of project costs in year 1, 60% in year 2, 40% in year 3, and declines to 20% in year 4.
    2. Rural Regional Public Defender Sustainability Grants – must cover 3 or more counties with a population of 100,000 or less - but waivers are available. State reimburses 80% of approved costs in the first yar, and transitions to ongoing sustainable funding covering 2/3rd of approved costs in subsequent years.
    3. Single-year Improvement Grants – funds indigent defense process improvement projects including technology.
    4. Technical Support Grants – special projects, including research projects, program assessments or pilot projects.
    5. Continued Multi-Year Improvement Grants.
