The Federal Emergency Management Agency has released nearly $1 billion in preparedness grants through 15 programs to help counties strengthen resilience against disasters like wildfires, floods, cyberattacks and terrorism, the National Association of Counties reported this week.
These FY 2025 grants align with five national priority areas, including cybersecurity, election security and border crisis response. At least 30% of Homeland Security Grant Program funds must support these priorities.
Counties can apply now via Grants.gov.
NACo also reported that the Department of Homeland Security has announced a new and final funding round for the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program, with applications due Aug. 15. The program provides $1 billion over four years to support state, local and tribal cybersecurity efforts. Eighty percent of funds must go to local governments, with 25% supporting rural areas.
NACo has called on Congress to reauthorize the grant program before it expires at the end of FY 2025 to maintain local cybersecurity readiness.
