TAC Legislative Conference Is Next Month
County officials from across Texas will gather in Austin Aug. 27-29 for the Texas Association of Counties’ 2025 Legislative Conference, the state’s largest annual meeting focused on county government.
The conference will offer attendees the chance to examine the outcomes of the 89th Texas Legislature and their implications for local governance. Through panel discussions, policy briefings and networking events, participants will explore a range of issues including county technology needs, indigent defense, public safety, disaster response and preparation, and election integrity.
A preconference session on Wednesday, Aug. 27, will offer a networking opportunity for members and prospective members of TAC’s Core Legislative Group. Most attendees are eligible to earn continuing education credits.
Early bird registration ends Aug. 6. County officials and staff may attend in person or virtually. Full agenda details and credit hour updates are available at county.org/legeconference.
Former U.S. Rep. Kent R. Hance is scheduled to deliver the opening keynote. Hance, a former state senator and chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, is known for his humorous and insightful reflections on public service. Often referred to as “The Best Storyteller in Texas,” he hosts a podcast of the same name.
The conference ends Friday, Aug. 29, with a session on county leadership efforts along the Texas-Mexico border.
