Officials Celebrate County Government Day
County officials from across Texas gathered in Austin on April 29 to celebrate County Government Day at the Capitol. The day was devoted to recognizing county government and the important public services counties provide. County officials also met with legislators to discuss issues important to counties and foster collaboration between county and state government.
The day began at 7 a.m. with the Texas Association of Counties’ Tuesday Morning Breakfast, where attendees received updates on the latest legislative developments. County officials then made their way to the Capitol where both the House and the Senate formally recognized the day as County Government Day.
Sen. Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) sponsored Senate Resolution 449, while Rep. Cecil Bell Jr. (R-Magnolia) sponsored House Resolution 817. Each resolution honored the critical role of county officials and the support provided by TAC.
The day’s highlight was a barbecue lunch in the Capitol Extension sponsored by TAC. County officials helped serve 500 plates of Louie Mueller BBQ to their colleagues, legislators, DPS troopers and Capitol staff — fostering camaraderie and appreciation across all levels of government.
