FCC to Host Webinar for Texas County Officials
The Federal Communications Commission will host a webinar on June 11 at 12 p.m. CDT (11 a.m. MDT) to provide Texas county officials with an overview of the agency’s structure and priorities. Emmitt Carlton, deputy chief of the FCC’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, will lead the session, titled “FCC 101 – What Texas Counties Need to Know.”

FEMA Opens Fire Safety, Staffing Grant Applications
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced $396 million in fiscal year 2024 grants to support local fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations, the National Association of Counties reported Wednesday.
The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program will provide $360 million to help department increase or maintain staffing levels. The Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) program will allocate $36 million for fire prevention initiatives and research to enhance firefighter safety.
Applications open today and will close on July 3 via FEMA GO at Grants.gov.

NACo Announces Policy Webinar Series
Following the inauguration of President Donald Trump in January, the National Association of Counties launched a weekly webinar series to track the administration’s first 100 days and its impact on counties.
NACo has since rebranded the series as Inside Washington. The revamped series will offer continued insight into legislative and regulatory developments from Capitol Hill and the White House. NACo’s Government Affairs team will analyze how these changes affect county government.
The series will air every other Thursday, with the next session scheduled for May 29 at 2:30 p.m. CDT (1:30 p.m. MDT). Attendees only need to register once to receive a recurring access link.
