Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE)-Ready Facilities Program (FY2027)
The Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE)-Ready Facilities Program (FY2027), managed by the Texas Office of the Governor's Public Safety Office (PSO), provides an estimated $3 million to support medical facilities in achieving or maintaining a "SAFE-Ready" designation. Eligible applicants—including licensed general and special hospitals, state-owned hospitals, freestanding emergency medical care facilities, and non-profits—can use funds for the training and continuing education of sexual assault forensic examiners, as well as the purchase of specialized equipment and supplies like exam tables, colposcopes, and evidence storage refrigerators. To increase access to exams, the program also covers administrative maintenance costs and salary/overtime for examiners specifically during training periods or to backfill staff attending training.
